- The nature of the database service engineering job demands a rational person who has in depth overall Server, OS and storage technology technical skills and support and deliver global operational team requirements.
- Active role as a senior subject matter expert for complete database specialize areas.
- Principal consultant in customers or project enquiries that are require high level of expertise regarding the technology and the service offering.
- Support and provide high level assistance on problem management and workarounds for DBAs.
- Provide expertise for developing new services / solutions.
- Design, develop, test and build technical solutions based on Server software.
- Develop design and working documents for all projects and involve on evergreen process.
- If needed, develop non-standard solutions for customers and to ensure that documentation, procedures, standards and guidelines comply with engineered standards.
- Participate and provide support on architect/project management in development/design/construction of new services that require database expertise.
- Act as a Project Lead for internal engineering projects/activities.
- Expert on principles, practices and theories in Database legacy and new technology to date.
- High end expertise on operating systems, networking concepts, storage concepts and monitoring.
- Participate and provide top line consultant service in performance analysis, tuning and capacity planning.
- Able to demonstrate advanced troubleshooting skills.
- Participate in identification and root cause analysis of repeating problems and escalation to the responsible party for recovery and future prevention.
- Understand and adhere to Information Security policies and standards.
- Customer relationship and managing stake holder requirements.
- Accountabilities on project management requirements and risk mitigation.
- Act as a principal consultant and top level expert support for global database operation, delivering recent technology tools; develop appropriate processes, operational readiness requirements, compliance assurances, database security, and knowledge management adjustment for all database middleware environments.
- Assist DBA Operations in identifying and resolving re-occurring incidents.
- Work closely across global engineering team (Microsoft Corporation, Storage and Network) to solve complex problems.
- Coordinate on root cause analysis between stake holder and database operation.
- Take full responsibility for the identification of key methodological or process issues.
- Provide end to end analysis and remediate plan.
- Lead new project request discussion with customer / project manager in the early stage in regarding to design, sizing, implementation standard & option.
- Identified, track and drive all project delivery of assigned deliverables to the Database Service Engineers under the technology portfolio.
- Act as principle liaison/focal point to Project Manager / project member / Engineers to resolve technical roadblocks.
- Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction in a multi dimensional engagement framework that includes Business Customer, Project Manager, Program Manager and participating engineers.
- Strong ability to steer and manage expectation and impression through effective communication.
- The ability to influence others with tactical and strategic communication method to secure cooperation and avoid conflicts.
- Demonstrate leadership quality in conveying goals and objectives clearly to assigned Database Service Engineer under the technology portfolio.
- Analyzes and determine the risk and impact of the decisions made.
- Set and meet realistic dateline for assigned Database Service Engineer under the technology portfolio.
- Anticipates consequences of actions, potential problems and opportunities for change.
- Forecasts/anticipate upcoming challenges in projects and services offering and develop/design/methods to overcoming challenges.
- Introduce, develop and implement improvements to the assigned technology portfolio.
- Degree, B.Sc. or equivalent, preferably in an Information Technology discipline.
- At least 7-12 years experience in an IT function, of which 5 years experience has been in a second line DBA support role, preferably in a leadership or consultancy role.
- In-depth technical knowledge of SQL Server and Windows OS technologies and versions.
- Experience managing SQL Server in virtualized environments or cloud implementations
- Experience in managing large complicated environments with various types of databases, versions, applications, customers, etc.
- Experience using PowerShell and SQL-SMO to automate tasks
- Experience with integration and support of backup software (Commvault Galaxy, TSM, Legato, BackupExec, etc.).
- Possess expert knowledge in Performance Tuning skills and Capacity Planning database technology.
- Prior experience in Application Development environment is an advantage.
- Good analytical skill and expert level programming techniques.
- Understanding of data management tools and techniques, e.g. normalisation, relational database design.
- Understanding of server and storage technology, e.g. RAID, NAS, SAN, snapshot, especially in the area of High Availability.
- Good knowledge and experience in the use of the Problem / Change and remote management tools, processes and applications.
- Possess expert knowledge in Performance Tuning skills and Capacity Planning database technology.
- Prior experience in Application Development environment is an advantage.
- Planning and documentation expertise required in high level.
- Good analytical skill and expert level programming techniques.
- Ability to adopt to various working culture and working environment, in view of T-Systems Global presence
- Ability to work in a virtual team spread around the world and collaborate across multiple time zones
- Ability to write well structured documents like work instructions with clear, logical and succinct English together with good use of word processing skills
- Ability to work in unstructured environments/situations
- Ability to develop well structured presentations with informative and well presented information appropriate for the desired audience
